I am an artist, and Assistant Professor at Okayama Prefectural University. Born in Kyoto, I learned fine art printmaking at Kyoto Seika University of Art.

Je suis artiste et professeur adjoint à l’Université préfectorale d’Okayama. Né à Kyoto, j’ai appris les arts de l’estampe à l’Université d’art de Kyoto Seika.

・How long have you been practicing silkscreen and why did you choose this technique?

I started working with silkscreen in 2000. At first I was interested in the process of silkscreening and the thickness of the ink. The ability to print on a variety of materials（paper, canvas, acrylic board etc…） was also important to me.

J’ai commencé à travailler la sérigraphie en l’an 2000. Au début, je m’intéressais au processus de sérigraphie et à l’épaisseur de l’encre. La possibilité d’imprimer sur une variété de matériaux (papier, toile, carton acrylique, etc.) était également importante pour moi.

・Did you made a series? Can you tell us more about it?

My work, “After Image”is a series I started in 2012. In “After Image,” I shot each hands’ action with a digital movie camcorder for various lengths of time from several seconds to three minutes and printed out still images of the shots. I then created silkscreen works based on the still images. The work constructed with the transparency of the ink as well as the transparency of afterimages that were invisible for the human eye without using the mechanics of the camera.

Mon travail, “After Image” (“image d’après” NDLR) est une série que j’ai commencée en 2012. Dans “After Image”, j’ai filmé l’action de chaque main avec un caméscope numérique pendant différentes durées allant de plusieurs secondes à trois minutes. J’ai ensuite créé des sérigraphies à partir des images fixes. Le travail construit avec la transparence de l’encre ainsi que la transparence des images rémanentes qui étaient invisibles pour l’œil humain sans utiliser la mécanique de la caméra.

・What do you think of the printmaking world in general?

I know about the Japanese printmaking world, but it also differs between the Tokyo area and the Kansai area. I have participated in print competitions all over the world, but I don’t understand enough about the world of printmaking. However, printmaking is rich in expression, and I think it is significant that there are competitions all over the world.

Je connais le monde de la gravure japonaise, mais il diffère également entre la région de Tokyo et la région du Kansai. J’ai participé à des concours d’impression partout dans le monde, mais je ne comprends pas assez le monde de l’estampe. Cependant, l’impression d’art est riche en expression, et je pense qu’il est significatif qu’il y ait des concours partout dans le monde.

• Quels sont sont vos projets ? What are your projects actually？

In addition to the “After Image” series(project), I am working on several other series, “Scenery over there,” “Graftage,” and “Light/Color,” all of which have been shown in international exhibitions. The “After Image” and “Light/Color” series also include works printed on acrylic board as well as paper. Both works printed on acrylic panels are unique pieces, but there are variations that make them different works depending on how the images are combined. I am doing an installation with variations of my work in a gallery space.

En plus de la série (projet After Image), je travaille sur plusieurs autres séries, «Scenery there», «Graftage» et «Light/Color», qui ont toutes été présentées dans des expositions internationales. Les séries «After Image» et «Light/Color» comprennent également des œuvres imprimées sur carton acrylique ainsi que sur papier. Les deux œuvres imprimées sur des panneaux acryliques sont des pièces uniques, mais il existe des variations qui en font des œuvres différentes selon la façon dont les images sont combinées. Je fais une installation avec des variations de mon travail dans l’espace d’une galerie.
